Book 2, Post 1

I chose to read Feel-Good Productivity: How to Do More of What Matters to You by Ali Abdaal, because the concept of productivity and discovering true career goals is very pertinent to my current phase in life. I’ve always considered myself a productive, ambitious girl, so I am eager to dive deeper into the nuances of productivity and growth through the perspective of an intellectual author and professional. I was drawn to Abdaal’s work as he explores a balanced approach to immersing oneself in goals and opportunities that are actually fulfilling, as opposed to just routine and obligatory. As someone who is currently juggling various responsibilities and pursuing potential career opportunities across industries, I align with the message of this book as I only seek creative and enjoyable work. Abdaal’s priorities towards authentic and meaningful professions resonate with my current perspective towards finding jobs and committing myself to roles that connect with my interests. He ...

Random Post 1: NY vs LA

NY vs LA: My Ongoing Internal Debate  I’ve always been a pretty decisive girl, and choosing USC as my dream school felt like a no-brainer; palm trees, warm weather, and year-long access to the beach beckoned me, and I longed for the four long years where I could immerse myself in California culture, living a life that felt like an endless vacation. Growing up in New York, life on the west coast seemed like a foreign concept, and for my parents, sending their daughter across the country to live there was even more daunting. I had no doubt in my mind that I would thrive in LA, as all the core tenets of the city– its focus on wellness, adventure, and vibrant space for creativity– aligned perfectly with my lifestyle. However, as the years went on and my LA experience progressed, certain moments began to illuminate my enduring love and appreciation for New York. These circumstances sparked an ongoing battle in my head about which city is the best place for me to call home. Both ...

Book 1 Post 2

Brian Cox’s Putting the Rabbit in the Hat was an extremely pleasant read, and touched upon a variety of topics that dive deep into his fascinating rags to riches journey. This profound memoir explores the renowned Scottish actor’s childhood struggles, and the journey to Hollywood-elite stardom. Cox provides a deep and personal glimpse into his complicated family life, addressing the obstacles and traumatic experiences that impacted him as a child; events like the loss of his father and the subsequent instability of his mother profoundly altered his perspective and approach to life, and made his eventual rise to fame that much more inspiring.  I initially chose this book because I’m currently majoring and working in the Music Industry, specifically in the realm of music supervision and film scoring, and am infatuated by the evolution of someone like Brian Cox’s career. This book actually exceeded my expectations and I really enjoyed the insight into my desired i...
